Prairie Wind Family Farm’s Pizza on the Farm Events:

Join Prairie Wind Family Farm for an evening of wood-fired pizzas on the Prairie Crossing Farm in Grayslake. Pizzeria Deville's Chef John Durning brings his wood-burning oven to the farm to create delicious, farm-fresh pizzas for purchase. Bring your picnic, listen to music, and enjoy the sunset on the farm. Farm fresh goodies also available for purchase.

Gleaning at Prairie Wind Family Farm:

Volunteers harvest produce that otherwise would not be harvested from Prairie Wind’s fields. The fresh vegetables are then delivered to local food pantries to feed vulnerable Lake County residents. The program is run in partnership with the Liberty Prairie Foundation.

One Earth Film Festival:

A Chicago area film festival that creates opportunities for understanding climate change, sustainability, and the power of human involvement through sustainability-themed films and facilitated discussion. The Festival is a production of Green Community Connections. Showings are often held in early March and later for Earth Day in April. There are typically several showings in Lake County throughout the festival.

Smart Farm; various classes and events

Smart Farm to Table: Join Smart Farm of Barrington for an evening of great local food, drinks, and music. Proceeds support the organization’s work to donate thousands of pounds of fresh vegetables each season and provide education to the community about the importance of fresh, local food.

Citizens for Conservation Spring Native Plant Sale, Barrington: An abundant supply of hard-to-find native plants and information on planting and care shared by CFC volunteers.

College of Lake County Annual Horticulture Plant Sale, Grayslake: Features annuals, prairie grasses, perennials, vegetables, and herbs.

The Gardeners of Central Lake County Plant Sale, LibertyvillePerennials, annuals, vegetable, and herb seedlings for sale.

Lake County Forest Preserves and SWALCO Native Plant Sale, Libertyville: Choose from a variety of native plants, shrubs, and trees suited to almost any backyard, as well as rain barrels and compost bins.

Date: Saturday, May 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, May 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., North Bay Pavilion at Independence Grove in Libertyville

Liberty Prairie Foundation’s Organic Plant Sale and Farm Open House, Grayslake: Features organic plants and other farm products from local farms and vendors, free hayride tours, and more on the Prairie Crossing Farm. This year's festivities will include coffee and pizza, over 100 varieties of certified organic vegetable, herb, flower, and fruit plants, opportunities to connect with local farmers and artisans, and kids activities.

Smart Farm Organic Vegetable Plant Sale, Barrington: Locally and organically grown vegetable plants for sale.

Date: Saturday, May 11 and May 18 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Smart Farm Hoophouse on the Advocate Good Shepherd Campus, 490 W. Hwy 22, Barrington (Google Maps may not take you directly there; the location is just west of Good Shepherd Hospital on Hwy 22--a white house on the north side of the street just east of Kelsey Rd.)

Antioch Garden Club Perennial Plant Sale, Antioch: Hundreds of member-grown perennials, woodland plants, veggie seedlings, groundcovers, and hostas, offered along with local honey products and homemade bakery items. Proceeds fund Arbor Day tree purchases, horticulture scholarships, and the beautification and maintenance of Antioch's public gardens.

Elawa Farm Plant Sale, Lake Forest: A variety of heirloom tomato, pepper, and herb seedlings during two May weekends at the Elawa Farm Garden Market.

Date: Friday and Saturday, May 18 and 19 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday, May 24 and 25 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., 1401 Middlefork Dr., Lake Forest

Grayslake Greenery Garden Club Plant Sale, Grayslake: Features homegrown perennials, annuals, herbs, and other plants including several species of heirloom tomatoes started from seeds.

Date: Saturday, May 18, downtown Grayslake next to the Village Hall (10 Seymour Ave.), diagonal to the feed store, and west of the train tracks.

University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners Plant Sale, Grayslake: Features perennials, homegrown vegetable plants, and advice from Master Gardeners on gardening and lawn care.
